Cheyenne Mountain Resort Goes to the Dogs
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 2013). . . . .Cheyenne Mountain Resort, a Benchmark Resort® is clearly crazy about canines as it introduces Cheyenne’s Bed & Biscuit Club and its inspiration, their new resort dog: Cheyenne. An irresistible 55-pounds of fur and fun, this five-month-old St. Bernard puppy catapulted from homeless pup to top dog in a few short weeks, thanks to the compassion and generosity of both the community and Cheyenne Mountain Resort.
According to Andie Armbrust, Foster Care Coordinator for the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, a three-month-old St. Bernard puppy was recently found wandering at the local Walmart. She was suffering from parasites, but seemed to have initially come from a good home as she was easily house-trained; was very social with cats, dogs and children; would sit before eating and walked well on a leash. They held her for the five days required by law and because of her extremely gentle nature, Armbrust quickly placed her with a foster family to continue her socialization.
Since the annual Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region's 16th Annual Fur Ball was fast approaching, Ms. Armbrust decided to add her to the Pet Parade, whereby guests can bid on adopting a pet during the live auction. Rarely does a full-bred St. Bernard puppy become available, so as the bidding escalated, Cheyenne’s General Manager, Todd Felsen, had an epiphany: this fabulous mountain dog would become their resort dog and she would be called Cheyenne. Andre’ D’Amour, assistant director of conference services, and his wife, volunteered to ‘parent’ this precious pup and the night became a victory for all, with the Humane Society raising $204,000.
Cheyenne quickly learned the command, “Let’s go to work," prompting her to ride shotgun to the resort, tumble into the lobby and proceed to charm both guests and staff throughout the day. True to her breed, Cheyenne is extremely gentle, friendly, tolerant of children and other animals, obedient, eager and willing to please, which according to D’Amour, "makes her perfect for the hospitality business!”
A relatively picky eater, but a voracious ice cruncher, Cheyenne is expected to reach between 150-160 pounds. She currently prefers socializing and snoozing to strenuous activity, but all bets are off when she picks up the scent of bacon. She predictably adores the snow and water and has become particularly skilled at playing Hide-n-Seek with D’Amour’s belongings at home, yet is the model of decorum when she is ‘on the job’ in the resort lobby.
In celebration of Cheyenne’s adoption, Cheyenne Mountain Resort has created Cheyenne’s Bed & Biscuit Club, which offers a drool worthy selection of welcome pet amenities, including food and water bowl, a washable dog blanket, a eco-friendly dog toy, dog treats, courtesy clean-up bags, plus a stylish logoed dog tag; all yours to take home. Owners will receive a detailed brochure highlighting area pet services, including veterinarians, pet shops and groomers, plus Cheyenne’s insider tips for dog walking routes, dog parks, dog-friendly cafes and much more.
A one-time fee of $50 per canine friend (limit of two per room, each weighing no more than 80 pounds) will be charged to accommodate this extra special dog friendly experience and doggy welcome gift bag.
