Groups Tap Into Colorado-inspired Meetings & Experiences at Cheyenne Mountain Resort

Resort attributes unprecedented growth in group bookings to its new lineup of experiential services

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ─ June 10, 2017 ─ “Quintessential Colorado” is the thematic cornerstone behind a new lineup of group and meeting experiences at Cheyenne Mountain Resort that have fueled a recent surge in bookings. Designed to celebrate the beauty, charm and history of the Centennial State, this new series infuses destination-specific elements into various offerings to give attendees a more authentic and immersive local experience.

“Since launching in January, the resort has seen significant increases in summer bookings, large group corporate functions, incentive and bleisure travel,” said Tom Walker, Director of Sales. “We have seen non-existing segments like incentive travel go from zero bookings in previous years to 2-3 large-scale events this year. While our commitment to IAAC and AAA Four Diamond standards remain the cornerstone of our success, I also believe planners want fun and authentic ways to engage and immerse their attendees in the destination.”

How Colorado Savvy is Your Team?

The resort’s new line of team building offerings include experiences that combine collaborative activities with Colorado nuances to create fun and unique programs. Challenges range from low to adventurous and offer attendees various opportunities to get smart about Colorado. A few team building activities include:

Stacked Facts | Four-foot tall Jenga relay challenge where attendees need to answer a Colorado fact before stacking their game piece.

Cheyenne Dauntless Dash | A one-mile race that challenges attendees to complete a series of Colorado-inspired obstacles.

Build A Canoe | A design challenge that pairs off teams to build a canoe using local materials and then race to the finish – before it sinks!

Locally Sourced & Poured | A mixologist showdown where attendees use various local spirits and ingredients to create a new libation.

Geocaching Hunt | A search and solve venture to find a series of coordinates and Colorado clues to solve the answer.

Cause & Effect Charity Challenge | Pick from 1 of 3 area charities and rally to build everything from wheelchairs and dog toys to beehives.

Food & Beverage with Flair

Designed to defy standard conference fare, the culinary team at Cheyenne Mountain Resort has re-concepted its food and beverage offerings to include globally-inspired dining themes, interactive chef action stations, and health and lifestyle menu alternatives. These menus give planners more flavorful options and flexibility to assemble the ideal culinary experience to complement their meeting or event. For a peak at the new menus, visit Banquet Menus at Cheyenne Mountain Resort.

IACC Stamp of Approval

As the area’s only IACC-certified conference center, Cheyenne Mountain Resort conforms to a comprehensive global set of criteria and standards. These quality standards address a myriad of areas such as physical meeting room design, food & beverage, technology, guest rooms, sustainability, and other service-related standards. Collectively, these standards are in place to give meeting planners complete confidence and assurance knowing they are booking a venue focused on delivering exceptional meeting experiences. Cheyenne Mountain Resort has held this designation for 15 years and is the only resort in Colorado Springs to boast this badge of honor.

Unprecedented Growth

Cheyenne Mountain Resort attributes the growth it’s seen to date to this new series of Quintessential Colorado experiences and to its IAAC and AAA Four Diamond ratings. Below are meeting segments that have seen significant year-to-date growth from 2015-2016:

  • Large-scale corporate meetings out-pace small meetings. In 2015, groups comprised of mid-sized groups accounted for 25%, but in 2016 that surged by +16% to represent 41% of the booking portfolio. Among large-sized groups, 2015 tracked 9%, but in 2016, that number increased by +5% to 14%.

  • Meetings account for more room nights. Between 2015 and 2016, group room nights increased by 2.75% YOY, while Group ADR grew 5% YOY, leading to a total increase of 7.95% in group room revenue, YOY.

  • More meetings equals greater meetings revenue. In 2016, the resort saw a +7.95% boost in group room revenue from 2015 that exceeded budget targets by 3%.

New Meeting Spa Experiences Coming Soon

This winter, the resort’s on-property spa, Alluvia Spa and Wellness Retreat, will unveil a series of focused body treatments designed to alleviate the physical demands working professionals experience in their day-to-day job duties.
