Family Fun In The Pikes Peak Region

family fun at Cheyenne Mountain Resort

Summer is here in the Pikes Peak Region, and despite the crowds, we think it’s the perfect place to be. When you stay at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, you’re guaranteed to create unforgettable memories no matter where you go, especially when you visit America’s Mountain, Pikes Peak. Read on to find a shortlist of some of our hands-down favorite spots to take your family.

An easy number one, drive the 19 miles to the top of Pikes Peak and make as many stops as you want on the pull-offs on the way up. Get out of the car, stretch your legs, and take stunning photos to look back on later. At the placards on your way, read why Pikes Peak is also the perfect spot to learn about history, geology, nature, and Colorado wildlife!

Garden of the Gods is a must in any list. This majestic natural playground is a blast for families. Let the kids run around the orange spires, chimneys, and balancing rocks, and enjoy taking fun photos. Paved paths through the center of the Garden guide you through the most iconic rock formations, while several hiking trails wind you around the outside of the garden for a different perspective and a bit more exercise. Parking lots fill up early, so plan to arrive close to sunrise.

While you’re there, find your way to the south entrance of the park to get lost in The Garden of the Gods Trading Post. It’s ideal for families like yours who want to cool off after a long day of playing in the Garden. But plan to spend some time there; at 25,000 square feet of space, it’s the biggest gift shop in the state! Go ahead and treat yourself to a delicious treat from Colorado City Creamery, and shop for unique gifts and souvenirs to remember your trip by.

Then there’s the zoo, of course! If you have kids in toe, you really must plan to spend an afternoon at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, home to more than 750 animals and America’s only mountain zoo. Feed the giraffes, ride the historic carousel, and be sure to check out the incredible views. Read more on the zoo website to get the most out of your visit. Early in the day is best for seeing active animals!

We’re all family here in the Pikes Peak region and are happy to send you over to see the Seven Falls at The Broadmoor. It’s an incredible sight that brings in families from all over the world. Soak up the breathtaking scenery, unique hiking trails, a [smaller] gift shop, and more.

Finally, plan a visit to Old Colorado City. Once planned to become the capital of Colorado, it’s a unique city full of history and small-town charm. Enjoy the area’s eclectic boutiques, award-winning dining options, striking local art galleries, and other family-friendly activities.

That’s a pretty solid top 5, if you lump the Trading Post in with your visit to the Garden of the Gods, and we think that’ll round out a fabulous long weekend or more if you have the time to spend. Check back with us next time, to add to the list of activities for the thrill-seeking traveler! Start your adventure today by booking a stay at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, your launching pad to the best in the Springs.
